Cavitation erosion resistance testing
- Beside mechanical strength and corrosion resistance, the durability with regards to cavitation erosion is one of the most essential properties of a propeller/impeller material. KHRC has developed a test rig for cavitation erosion testing.
- The device is based on a method called “rotating disc method”, where the materials are exposed to aggressive cavitation during a long period.
- By weighing the samples at certain intervals, the material loss is determined and different materials can be compared relatively with regards to their durability. Typical comparisons made are between different stainless steels, surface treatments and coatings.
