K-Sim® DP Basic - Class C
Training of Dynamic Positioning Operators (DPO) is conducted according to IMCA M117 The Training and Experience of Key DP Personnel.
Training of Dynamic Positioning Operators (DPO)
The training of Dynamic Positioning Operators (DPO) is conducted in accordance with IMCA M117, The Training and Experience of Key DP Personnel. The training follows the Nautical Institute’s (NI) certification scheme, structured into a five-phase programme: introduction course, seagoing familiarisation, DP simulator course, supervised DP watchkeeping, and concluding with a final Statement of Suitability by the Master.
Alternatively, training can be conducted according to a DNV GL approved scheme, such as KONGSBERG SMSC. The three levels of training are completed with a practical assessment.
Simulated DP Vessels
KONGSBERG DP simulators offer training for a wide range of DP vessels and configurations, including:
- Supply Vessels
- Shuttle Tankers
- Drillships
- Semi-Submersible Units
Customer-specific ship models, along with corresponding DP and hydrodynamic models, can be provided upon request.
Training Objectives
Operator errors during DP operations can result in costly downtime, or even worse, accidents or incidents leading to damage, pollution, personnel injuries, or fatalities. This highlights the need for a comprehensive training programme for key DP personnel, supported by accurate and realistic training systems. The K-Sim® DP, Basic, is utilised throughout the basic and general training of DP operators.
Equipment and Configuration
The desktop operator stations consist of a full operator panel connected to a PC, arranged in a classroom setting with an instructor station. All DP stations typically simulate the same vessel and DP system configuration but operate independently of each other.
Instructor
The instructor is able to guide students during DP system operations. The built-in simulator provides realistic responses to the operations initiated by each student.
