SOLAR ARRAY DRIVE MECHANISMS - SADM

Kongsberg Space Systems’ core competence is the development and qualification of rotation and pointing mechanism with supportive drive electronics for satellites. Our product philosophy is based on modular configurable systems with reuse of qualified components between different models to minimize the need for non-recurring activities to meet customer requirements.

The KARMA (Kongsberg Adaptive Rotation Mechanism Assembly) is a family of products comprising Solar Array Drive Mechanisms (SADM) for interplanetary missions, Geostationary (GEO) satellites, and Low Earth Orbiting (LEO) satellites and Antenna Pointing Mechanisms (APM) for LEO data downlink antennas and Inter Satellite Link antennas.

KARMA-4 Third Generation (TG) is the latest development of the KARMA-4 series of Solar Array Drive Mechanisms (SADMs) based on two-generation SADM with flight heritage. KARMA-4 TG is a compact price and lead-time competitive modular and configurable SADM aimed at both LEO and GEO applications. Depending on customer needs, it can be delivered with a Slip Ring or a Twist Capsule for transfer of power and signals.

KARMA-5 TG (Third Generation) is the latest development of the KARMA-5 family Solar Array Drive Mechanisms (SADMs). KARMA-5 TG is a price and lead time competitive modular and configurable SADM able to be fitted with a Slip Ring or a Twist Capsule for transfer of power and signals. A major innovation is the use of a modular PCB based Slip Ring providing a compact design and it enables KARMA-5 TG to cover a wide power range.

KONGSBERG offers a wide range of Solar Array Drive Mechanisms for Earth Observation, Telecommunication, Navigation and Science Explorations and Missions. The product portfolio offers a power range from 0.5 kW to 8.5 kW.
