K-SIM® Cargo LNG Tanker – Membrane

K-SIM® Cargo LNG Tanker – Membrane

Operators of LNG tankers must be thoroughly familiar with process-controlled operations to ensure safe and efficient loading and discharging. If the cargo boils off too quickly or the tank is cooled down too rapidly, it can result in dangerous pressure imbalances or a vacuum, potentially causing extreme temperatures. These fluctuations can damage the tanks or even the hull structure, posing significant risks to the vessel and its cargo. Understanding and controlling these processes is critical to maintaining operational safety and preventing costly damage.

Model Description

The K-Sim Cargo-LNG membrane model simulates an LNG tanker with four GTT design membrane tanks. It includes high-duty and low-duty compressors, cargo heaters/vaporizers, a ballast system, nitrogen and inert gas generators, and a dryer system. Cargo temperature and environmental data can be set individually, while the tank atmosphere and temperature are continuously calculated. Boiling-off operation is also included for realistic scenario training.

STCW Requirements

The LNG-M model meets the STCW requirements for sections A-II/1, A-II/2, A-II/3, A-III/1, A-III/2, and A-V/1, which cover:

  • Safe loading and planning
  • Cargo care during the voyage and unloading
  • Trim, stability, and stress management to maintain seaworthiness

DNV GL Certification

This model is certified and approved according to DNV’s Standard for Certification of Maritime Simulator Systems ST-033.

Training Levels

The simulator is available as both a desktop system for classroom training and a full mission system. A BigView 3D interactive mimic with a 3D pop-up display is also included for enhanced cargo operation familiarization.

It is suited for the following training levels:

  • Junior officers in basic cargo operations
  • Senior officers in full-scale cargo operations (loading, discharging, cooling down, venting)
  • Senior officers and captains in advanced cargo-handling operations
