Our Americas division is responsible for Kongsberg Maritimes services, upgrades, and support in the aftermarket. Our 2,300 employees are present in 35 different countries around the world. During the operational lifetime of more than 30,000 installations, we ensure cost-efficient delivery of services, upgrades, and spare parts to secure availability and predictability to our customers.

We are looking for a collaborative and determined Field Service Engineer - Dynamic Positioning Software and Hardware.

Key Accountabilities:

  • Work on Dynamic Positioning (DP) releases in both delivery and after sales phases.
  • Provide technical support both in the office and onboard to customers and colleagues.
  • Carry out service / commissioning activities onboard installations such as DP tuning, thruster scaling, software basis release updates, implementing patches and fixes, dynamic positioning capability analysis, drawing updates and IO termination database documentation, remote diagnostics, software interfaces for sensors and reference systems.
  • Perform Factory Acceptance Tests and develop tailor-made software functionalities.
  • Produce technical assistance in the field related to on-call assignments and combined hardware and software related issues.
  • Present, service, adjust and repair software used in the Dynamic Positioning system onboard client vessels.
  • Attend sea trials during commissioning to complete the delivery.
  • Attend vessels to conduct service work.
  • Responsible for reporting errors or defects on equipment delivered from Company and suggest improvements using Company’s Problems & Improvements database.
  • Provide technical assistance to sales, after sales and our customers.
  • Assist service coordination group with service setup and execution.
  • Produce and review Statistical Capability plots analyzing variables including vessel design, topography, and response to environmental conditions.
  • Responsible for updating service desk, Visual Source Safe, and documentation after Customer request.
  • Participate in 24-hour duty phone when needed, including availability for vessel off hire situations.
  • Report problems and suggest improvements using KM tools as quality control responsible.
  • Travel on short notice inside and outside of the Gulf of Mexico service region.
  • Mentor and train newly appointed engineers 


Qualifications and experience:

  • Bachelor’s degree in Electronic Engineering, Mechanical Engineering, Computer Engineering, Mechatronics or a closely related field.
  • Four (4) years marine industry experience in Dynamic Positioning systems including software and hardware including (4) years of experience with dynamic positioning operations pertaining to offshore drilling, dive support, supply, cable lay vessels, dredger, pipelay vessels & jack-up barges utilizing knowledge of software tools such as Visual Source Safe, Sourcesafe Integrate, GIT, Team Foundation Server, AutoCad.
  • Willing to travel on short notice.
  • 50% Travel Required (Ex: 95% of that time domestic travel across the U.S. and 5% international travel)
  • Overtime: 20+ hrs./wk.
  • On call during weekends, holidays and/or 24/7.
  • Willing to work Offshore as well as travel on helicopters and crew boats.

St. Rose, LA 70087 and various unanticipated locations throughout the U.S. and offshore
