Project: Summit 2028 – Creating Results for Sailing

Join us at KONGSBERG, together with Olympiatoppen, for a result focused summer internship initiative, Summit2028 – Creating results, which aspires to lay the foundation for Norwegian medals at the Olympics and Paralympics at Los Angeles 2028 through technology developments.

Summit 2028 is a continuation of the collaboration established for the Paris Olympics and Paralympics in 2024, where industry sponsorship was established to create reliable financial framework and results for 10 different sports. KONGSBERG is one of the industry sponsors in Summit 2024 and Summit 2028 and have also collaborated with Olympiatoppen on technical developments.

The student program Summit2028 – Creating Results for Sailing is an interdisciplinary summer project focused on technology research for sailing, designed for students passionate about sports technology and data science. The project leverages data to support optimal decision making in competitive sailing. This is a joint program where the summer students will be based at Kongsberg office alongside Project Revolution Green students and will work closely with Olympiatoppen to develop impact full results.

All interns will be supported by experienced mentors at our business area Kongsberg Maritime, who will help define tasks that align with the interns' academic skills and professional interests. At the end of the project, the team will present their work to the leadership of KONGSBERG and Olympiatoppen, alongside other student project groups. This experience will be challenging but also fulfilling, providing a great opportunity to apply academic knowledge to a real-world project.

The summer internship project will focus on creating a prototype system that collects, analyses, and displays data from various sensors, GPS, and weather inputs to provide sailors with real-time, actionable insights. The project will combine machine learning, data engineering, and UX design to enhance sailing performance and decision-making.

We are looking for a diverse group of students to contribute to various aspects of the project. The project roles and team locations are subject to change.
