Through this contract, KSAT will help reduce global deforestation by supporting the activities of Norway’s International Climate and Forest Initiative (NICFI), a part of the Royal Norwegian Ministry of Climate and Environment (MCE).
“Satellite-based information is essential for environmental monitoring, as global climate control relies on timely and accurate satellite data. This is an area of great importance to not only KSAT, but also society as a whole. We are therefore pleased to support this important initiative to help combat deforestation on a world scale,” says Rolf Skatteboe, President of KSAT.
Norway has taken a leading role internationally in monitoring global deforestation. By providing satellite mosaics of selected regions, deforestation can be monitored and controlled with the aim of reducing it.
KSAT will provide NICFI with historical and monthly updated mosaics of selected areas world-wide. Satellite-based data will be provided by KSAT partners Planet Inc (USA) and Airbus (France).
This contract is an important milestone for KSAT, and it will strengthen KSATs frontrunner position internationally.
“The contract is of high strategic importance for the development of KSAT as a world-leading partner within services based on satellite data for environmental monitoring and control. It confirms KSAT’s position as a provider of information from optical satellites, and further expands our offerings, says Skatteboe.
