Kongsberg Norcontrol IT has been awarded the Spanish national AIS Network contract by Abertis, the prime contractor. The end-user is SASEMAR (Sociedad de Salvamento y Seguridad Marítima), which is responsible for all maritime pollution prevention and response, and maritime traffic control along the Spanish coast as well as Search and Rescue (SAR) operations in the designated Spanish SAR Region that totals more than 1 500 000 km2.
The Kongsberg Norcontrol IT contract includes fully redundant data centres, a thin Web client with traffic analysis functionality, and over 35 Physical Shore Stations on a hot-stand-by configuration using the latest generation of Kongsberg AIS Base stations. Kongsberg Norcontrol IT shall also support a comprehensive Service Level Agreement.
The new AIS network for Spain shall provide AIS data to all Spanish VTS centres, as well as to users outside the VTS centres via the Web client. The traffic analysis function shall be particularly valuable for SASEMAR as the data centre will store several years of AIS data for retrieval and analysis.
“This is a particularly important project for us,” says Roberto González Álvarez, Business Development Manager for Kongsberg Norcontrol IT. “We faced tough completion from the old incumbent provider, but with Abertis, we had a valued added proposition.” In addition, the new National AIS Network in Spain will be among the largest National AIS Networks in the world.”
