Long-term collaboration strengthened with new agreement

Strong partnerships are essential to ensure quality, delivery capability, and innovation in the defence industry. For more than 25 years, Kongsberg Defence & Aerospace has worked closely with Hatteland Technology to develop and deliver advanced technological solutions. This collaboration is now extended and strengthened through a strategic agreement that secures continued deliveries of critical components for both maritime and air defence systems.

The agreement was signed on 14 March at Hatteland Technology’s facilities in Aksdal, Norway, marking an important milestone in the long-standing collaboration.

Signing on behalf of Hatteland Technology: CEO Lars Skjelbred-Eriksen, and on behalf of Kongsberg Defence & Aerospace: Vice President Naval Systems Lena Mariann Ulveraker.

It enables us to expand our production capacity, develop new technology, and contribute to a stronger defence industry. Both the Mayor of Tysvær Municipality, Monika Lindanger, and former Prime Minister and Conservative Party leader Erna Solberg attended the signing. Solberg highlighted the current geopolitical threat landscape and the need to scale up defence production. In this context, she specifically emphasised the crucial role that both Hatteland Technology and KONGSBERG play in strengthening supply security and preparedness.

Increased production capacity and industrial growth

Over the years, the collaboration has led to growth and development for both parties.

"Our revenue has grown from MNOK 625 in 2021 to MNOK 1,079 in 2024, alongside an increase in our workforce from 180 to 220 employees. This growth reflects the rising demand for our solutions and our expanded capacity to deliver," says Skjelbred-Eriksen.

Hatteland Technology is further investing in production capacity and will soon move into a new production facility in Aksdal, Norway, scheduled for completion on 5 April. This expansion will further strengthen the company’s ability to deliver defence-critical components and ensure stable supply chains.

Logistics is essential to ensure stable deliveries to the defence sector. Timely access to critical components requires both proactivity and a willingness to share risk, qualities that Hatteland Technology has demonstrated for many years. Their ability to manage challenges and find solutions in demanding situations was also among the factors that earned them the "Bergmannen" Supplier Award in 2023, presented during Kongsberg Agenda. The award is given annually to a supplier that excels in collaboration, reliability, and decisiveness in line with our values.

Broad impact on Norwegian industry

The defence industry creates significant value and employment across the country. According to the Norwegian Defence and Security Industries Association (FSi), the sector employs over 17,000 people and generates approximately NOK 20 billion in annual value.

Kongsberg Defence & Aerospace plays a key role in this value creation. We collaborate with more than 2,000 Norwegian subcontractors, generating significant local ripple effects. In 2024, we awarded three times more contracts to Norwegian subcontractors than we received from Norwegian clients.

“A strong defence requires solid production capacity and expertise, and it is a great advantage that we can source this from Norwegian suppliers. This strengthens both preparedness and industrial development in the country,” concludes Løver Andersen.
