Programmer

Are you a programmer, with experience in full-stack development, that is looking for an exciting position where you get to work with the whole chain from database to UI? Do you aspire to join a dedicated software development team within a product-based company in the marine business, engaged with advanced technologies and solutions? The Hydrodynamic Research Centre at Kongsberg Maritime in Kristinehamn seeks to expand the Methods Development team with an additional Programmer to contribute to our ongoing success and development.

This unique opportunity involves maintaining and developing our in-house software framework, PropCalc, consisting of about 80 programs. PropCalc is a desktop application, mainly written in C++/MFC and Fortran, interfacing with third-party programs and SQL databases. It integrates user-friendly tools for sales, design, and engineering of ship propulsion products, improving efficiency, performance, and quality.

You will join a dedicated and solution-oriented team where you will face situations with no obvious answers or solutions, challenging your creativity and problem-solving skills. It is essential that you collaborate effectively, maintain focus on structure and maintainability, and contribute with suggestions for improvements.

As a Programmer, your work will range from straightforward bug fixing to developing new tools and functionalities based on the organization's needs. You will work closely with users to understand their needs, as well as collaborate with the IT organization to ensure an effective implementation, both requiring strong interpersonal skills. Your main tools will include Git, Visual Studio, DevOps, and SQL Server Management Studio.

What we think you should have

We are seeking a candidate with a post-secondary education in Computer Science, Software Engineering, or equivalent. Proficiency in C++, database management and interface programming are required. Additionally, experience in SQL, MFC, OpenGL, and secure environments/export control is highly desirable. In this position, collaboration is key to succeed, therefore we value your personal characteristics highly and your ability to co-operate well with others, communicate clearly, share knowledge, and support your colleagues in the pursuit of team goals.

Kongsberg is an international company, where English is the primary language. Hence, proficiency in English, both spoken and written, is required. You will collaborate both internally and externally, globally, with interfaces to other sites and teams within Kongsberg. Thus, some travel will be required, mainly to our internal stakeholders globally.

At KONGSBERG, we believe that diversity fuels innovation. We encourage you to apply, even if you do not meet every requirement.  Your unique perspective is valuable to us. Your skills, attitude and perspective could be exactly what we are looking for!

Our ambition is to fill the position as soon as possible, selection and interviews may therefore begin during the application period. For this position we work with personality and ability tests, which may be sent to you if you proceed in the process.

Since we are a company working with customers in the Naval segment, questions related to citizenship will be part of the selection process. Additionally, we conduct background checks on all employment positions.

  • We offer flexible working hours and the option to work remote or from home office.
  • Leverage your experience to drive change and mentor the next generation of maritime professionals.
