K-Sim® Safety

K-Sim Safety is a simulation system developed to practice management and procedures for firefighting, search and rescue operations. With an immersive 3D virtual environment, the simulator provides a realistic, safe and cost-efficient way of training for safety professionals.

Realistic firefighting, search and rescue training

The firefighting simulator allows emergency crews to experience an incident as if it happened in real life. During a simulator exercise, they can assess the situation and determine the best response strategy. Thereafter, implement it and then observe the consequences of their decisions during a debriefing. By using K-Sim Safety critical training can be carried out to ensure enhanced competence in fire prevention and firefighting techniques.

Meeting STCW training requirement

K-Sim Safety enables practical exercises simulated in a realistic 3D environment. It meets the STCW regulation VI/3, section A-VI/3 table A-VI/3-1, where methods for demonstrating competence in firefighting, search and rescue onboard are described as:

  • Control firefighting operation onboard ships
  • Organize and train fire teams
  • Inspect and service fire detection and extinguishing systems and equipment

Enhancing Safety Training with K-Sim Safety

K-Sim Safety provides realistic simulation-based training for emergency response and crisis management. Watch how our advanced technology prepares crews for real-life incidents, improving safety and operational readiness.

Training the Entire Crew

K-Sim Safety allows up to three teams to train simultaneously, typically one management team and two firefighting teams.

Bridge/Safety Command Center

The management team coordinates firefighting efforts from the bridge or safety command center, using radio communication and an Integrated Automation System (IAS) for full situational awareness.

Fire Control and Safety Plan

The simulator includes a fire control and safety plan, as required by SOLAS, detailing fire stations, detection systems, and firefighting equipment onboard.

Main training elements:

  • Communication
  • Management training
  • Familiarization with emergency exits
  • Location of firefighting equipment
  • Compare general arrangement drawings with real life
  • Finding missing persons & evacuation
  • Blackout training
  • Flooding
  • Decisions and assessment of consequences

Complete crew training solution

The full mission training system includes two separate fire team muster stations (fire station 1 and 2) with detailed 3D virtual ship hotel & machinery space application. All of which has an interactive walk-through virtual animation of the entire engine room and the four upper decks.

Simulated functionality in 3D:

  • Fire & smoke
  • Flooding
  • Electrical lighting control (normal and emergency light, blackout)
  • Ventilation control panel
  • Missing persons (Victims)
  • Fireteam presence
  • Smoke diver outfit
  • Fire extinguisher equipment

Virtual Reality Firearms Training

K-Sim Safety features a 3D interactive walkthrough of key ship areas, including firefighting equipment, emergency exits, muster stations, and lifesaving devices. Realistic visual elements such as fire, smoke, lighting, and personnel enhance the training experience.

During exercises, fire teams—comprising a leader, an assistant, and two smoke divers—can practice procedures and navigate the virtual ship using an Xbox controller. Smoke divers can separate from their team and continue training in a dedicated virtual smoke diver’s area with their own monitor and controls.

The simulator also enables training in emergency communication, extinguisher use, and search-and-rescue operations.

Instructor Control & Assessment

K-Sim Safety features an advanced instructor system, developed with industry experts and DNV. Instructors can customize exercises for individuals or teams, simulating emergencies like fire, smoke, blackouts, flooding, and missing persons. Scenarios can be pre-set or adjusted in real-time to challenge trainees.

The system records all activities, allowing instructors to monitor, interact, replay exercises for debriefing, and assess performance with a built-in evaluation tool—ensuring structured and objective training.

Course participants experience K-Sim Safety as a lot more relevant and realistic than training with all functions on a piece of paper.
