Training of Dynamic Positioning Operators (DPO) is carried out in accordance with IMCA M117 The Training and Experience of Key DP Personnel. The high accuracy of our simulators also makes them ideal for pre-mission planning, feasibility studies, and research projects—such as autonomous vessel operations, port development, fuel economy analysis, accident investigation, and human factors studies.

Training objectives

K-Sim DP Manoeuvring Simulators are designed to support offshore operations by enabling procedure testing, enhancing operator competence, and minimising human error—ultimately reducing both the frequency and cost of incidents during DP operations.

Examples of offshore operations that can be realistically simulated include:

  • Close-proximity ship handling in offshore environments, such as platform support vessels approaching platforms, buoys, and FPSOs
  • Realistic offshore loading scenarios, including buoy loading, tandem loading, and tug assistance
  • Offshore operations involving supply, construction, and dive support vessels
  • Station-keeping of semi-submersible and drilling vessels using DP during drilling operations
  • Emergency manoeuvring situations

Equipment and configuration

The full-mission manoeuvring simulator offers up to 360° visuals and a dual-redundant K-Pos system, fully integrated with KONGSBERG ship handling or offshore vessel simulators. It includes Radar/ARPA, ECDIS, and a planning station for field map display. Standard layouts are available in aft and forward bridge configurations.

For maximum realism, K-Sim DP can be integrated with KONGSBERG position reference systems, third-party products, and various bridge setups found on offshore vessels.

Instructor

The instructor guides students during DP operations. The built-in simulator provides realistic responses to each student's actions.
