Engineering Manager - Naval

An exciting opportunity has arisen for an experienced Manager to lead our Engineering department within the Naval business, reporting to the Vice President – Naval. 

This role requires strong leadership, excellent communication, technical expertise, and strategic planning skills to ensure the delivery of high-quality, cost effective, and sustainable engineering solutions. The ideal candidate will be responsible for overseeing the entire lifecycle for our Naval Handling products, which include Replenishment at Sea (RAS) Systems and Mission Bay Handling Systems.

Due to security restrictions the successful candidate will be required to attain UK BPSS and SC Clearance with no caveats.

What you will be doing

  • Overall leadership and management of the Engineering department which includes Mechanical, Electrical and Integrated Logistic Support (ILS) Engineering teams based in the UK and Europe.
  • Ensuring the engineering department has the appropriate people, processes and tools to successfully execute its scope, and taking a proactive lead to rectify where there are deficiencies.
  • Estimating, and delivering in accordance with the estimate, engineering scope for all projects including Original Equipment Manufacturer (OEM) engineering design, in-service support, Research & Development (R&D) and New Sales Opportunities.
  • Manage project budgets, resources and schedules for all engineering scope.
  • Monitor and analyse project performance metrics, implementing improvements where necessary.
  • Collaborate with clients, internal and external stakeholders to ensure project success.
  • Build and mentor a high-performing team, fostering professional development.
  • Build an innovation culture within the team to ensure our products remain at the cutting edge of naval technology.

We think you should have

  • Bachelor’s degree in mechanical engineering, Electrical Engineering or a related field (master’s degree preferred).
  • Chartered Engineer preferred.
  • Proven experience (10+ years) engineering leadership experience relevant to this role.
  • Exceptional project management and leadership abilities.
  • Proficiency in engineering software and tools (2D and 3D) relevant to the marine industry.
  • Excellent communication, problem-solving, and decision-making skills.
  • Strong people skills and communication skills, both verbal and written.

The role is based in Gateshead, United Kingdom and a hybrid working arrangement is available (3 days a week in the office)
