Ormen Lange field to use Kongsberg Maritime seabed reference transponders

Norsk Hydro has chosen Kongsberg Maritime seabed reference transponders for the construction of North Sea situated Ormen Lange gas field project. The transponders are to be used for reference throughout the entire field during construction of the project.

The transponders will be installed as seabed references throughout the entire field; from the very complex near shore area, out over the plateau, the landslide edge, through the tough ridge topography landscape and into the deepwater area where the templates are to be installed.

All construction and survey vessels working with the project will utilise the transponders, which comply with Kongsberg's High Precision Acoustic Positioning (HiPAP) systems on Super Short and Long Base Line principles.

The Ormen Lange field will be developed by Norsk Hydro with seabed installations at depths of between 800 m and 1100 m, and will be linked to a processing plant on land at Nyhamna in the Aukra municipality, from where the gas will be exported. Due for completion in 2007, Ormen Lange will be responsible for up to 20% of the United Kingdom's demand for natural gas.
