Kongsberg Defence & Aerospace has signed a contract with Viking Submarine Corporation AB (VSC) about participation in Project Definition Phase I of the joint Scandinavian submarine project, VIKING, worth appr. MNOK 50.

The contract is part of a larger contract made with the Swedish Defence Materiel Administration, the Naval Materiel Command Denmark, the Norwegian Defence Logistics Organization/Sea and VSC worth a total of MNOK 145. Viking Submarine Corporation AB is owned by Odense Staalskibsverft A/S, Kongsberg Defence & Aerospace AS and Kockums AB.

The purpose of the project definition phase is to suggest solutions for future decisions to joint purchases of new submarines in the respective nations. The project definition is planned to be carried out in two separate phases. The first of these, which is now in contract, is to be carried out over the course of one year.
