Important contract worth MNOK 100

LNGKongsberg Maritime subsidiary Kongsberg Simrad has signed a contract to supply automation systems for three LNG (liquefied natural gas) tankers.

The contract also entails further option for one additional ship. The contract is valued at approximately MNOK 100.

"This is the third major contract Kongsberg Simrad has landed since the decision was made to enter this market a year ago. This is clearly a breakthrough for our strategy to integrate most control functions into a single automation system onboard LNG tankers. Our greatest strength in this special gas tanker niche is that we have cutting edge expertise and a far broader range of products than any other supplier on the market", comments Steinar Aabelvik, President of Kongsberg Simrad.

The three vessels are being built in Spain for the Elcano og Tapias shipping lines of Spain, and Knutsen OAS of Norway. The IZAR (formerly AESA) shipyard group will be building the first and third vessel in Bilbao, while the second will be built in Cadiz. The contract was won against sharp international competition, and the excellent climate of co-operation between IZAR and Kongsberg Simrad was a decisive factor.

In addition to deliveries to IZAR, the contract implies close co-operation with Mitsubishi and Kawasaki of Japan, which will be supplying boilers and turbines for the propulsion systems. The scope of the contract also covers full automation or the gas treatment system to be supplied by the French/Swiss company Cryostar.

Kongsberg Maritime is one of the world's leading suppliers of sophisticated marine information technology. The company has approximately 2300 employees located in more than 20 countries.
