BG Maria-Armada Pipeline Management System offshore Scotland BG Group in UK has awarded Fantoft Process Technologies (a part of Kongsberg Maritime) the contract for supply of a Pipeline Management System - PMS for the Maria-Armada development located offshore Scotland.
The Maria field
The Maria field consists of subsea production wells tied-back to the Armada processing platform through an 11 km multiphase pipeline. From Armada, gas is exported via CATS to Teesside and liquids through Forties to the Kinneil processing plant at Grangemouth. Recoverable reserves for Maria and Maria Horst are estimated to be in the region of 35 mmboe. First production is scheduled for Q1 2007. BG Group is the operator of Maria, on behalf of a consortium with Total and Centrica.
D-SPICE simulator technology

Subsea and topside facilities simulated
The Maria-Armada Pipeline Management System will simulate the response of the subsea production system as well as the topsides facility. The model will be configured in D-SPICE, which also includes a seamless integration with OLGA multiphase pipeline flow model.
Start up and day-to-day operation
The PMS will support the facility start up and also the day-to-day operation of the Maria field through the following modes:
- Real-time Mode
- Look-ahead Mode
- Planning/Training Mode
Additionally, the following application modules are included:
- Automatic Model Tuning
- Online Slug Monitoring
- Flow Regime Indication
- Optimal Ramp-Up Time
- Hydrate Formation Monitoring
Safe and regular operation
The D-SPICE PMS will be integrated with the control system and add crucial information for safe and regular operation of the Maria-Armada field. Fantoft's Production Management Systems group located in UK and Norway will execute this PMS project. Fantoft is also the supplier of Pipeline Management System to the Atlantic and Cromarty field, another BG-operated field offshore Scotland.
