BBC selects Simrad equipment

A team of expert divers and scientists has utilized Simrad navigation, echosounder and mapping equipment during filming of the stunning new BBC documentary, The Amazon Abyss.

The program follows the adventures of the team as they explore the hidden depths of the Amazon in search of new species and scientific breakthroughs. Simrad Ltd was approached last year to advise on equipment that could be used to navigate and record information on the Amazon riverbed depth and topography. Simrad Ltd's Buckie branch prepared a CX34 with transducer and C-map charts. Simrad Ltd also supplied third party 3D mapping software installed on a BBC supplied laptop to work in conjunction with the CX34. Steve Sargison of Comex Deep Sea Salvage was tasked with locating deep holes in the Rio Negro, Rio Tapajos and the Amazon. "I have been working in the Philippines and the Far East for the last five years and wished I had had the Simrad CX34 with me. The screen presented sharp clear images even in direct strong sunlight and at no time did we suffer any condensation on the screen even when we had heavy rain in an open boat directly followed by sun and high temperature."
