The Simrad PX Flow Sensor is an innovative wireless sensor designed to enhance your fishery operations by measuring the speed of the water flow. Different species swim at various speeds; hence, knowing the trawl's speed through water versus the vessel's GPS speed is crucial for efficient fishery. Many factors, such as tide, currents, and the net's physical properties, can influence the water flow through the net. The Simrad PX Flow sensor delivers real-time information, allowing for adjustments in vessel speed to maintain the correct towing speed and adapt to the target species.
Versatile gear measurement capabilities
The Simrad PX Flow sensor is a versatile, wireless multifunction gear monitoring sensor that measures water speed at the trawl opening or inside the trawl. This sensor differentiates itself using a small built-in acoustic Doppler current profiler (ADCP), which employs the Doppler principle to measure water speed at a distance from the net. This information is vital for accuracy in areas like a trawl tunnel where water speed decreases closer to the net.
The PX Flow sensor offers multiple measurement capabilities. It comes in two versions: the standard PX Flow sensor with a neutral lid and the D/T PX Flow sensor featuring a Depth/Temperature lid. These versions, each with unique features, provide flexibility and tailored functionality for various fishing operations, ensuring that the sensor meets your needs.
To achieve maximum performance, the sensor must be placed on the headrope or the tunnel below the net. Snap shackles attached to the mounting bar make mounting easy. For further protection during shooting and hauling, a metal protective cage is available for the PX Flow sensor. This cage safeguards the device from potential damage and extends its operational life in challenging marine environments.
System requirements and compatibility
This sensor is a part of the Simrad PX System.
To receive information from this gear monitoring sensor, you need a suitable receiver (PI or SR Series), one or more hydrophones, and a computer running the Simrad TV80 or Simrad PI50 programs.
This Simrad PX System is compatible with all our PI Hydrophones. However, it can also use non-Simrad hydrophones, provided the communication frequency matches.
