Medium-frequency omnidirectional fish-finding sonar
The Simrad MF90 is a medium-frequency 360-degree omni sonar developed for efficient fish-finding. Using a highly efficient composite transducer and high-end transceiver electronics, you can transmit and receive in the frequency range of 75 to 85 kHz.
With the newly developed components used by the Simrad MF90, you can achieve high resolution on longer ranges. You can also tune the operating frequency to better detect or avoid noise sources such as another echo sounder.
The new composite transducer developed for the Simrad MF90 is more complicated to manufacture than the traditional transducer, and we have made large investments in our production capacity. Today, we have one of the most sophisticated transducer production- and design departments in the industry.
QuadPing™
The groundbreaking commercial- and sportfishing tool we have named QuadPing™ is now available to you. QuadPing is an advanced sonar functionality that simultaneously uses four transmissions ("pings") to find and track the fish from deep in the water to your vessel. We have implemented this functionality as a dedicated presentation mode on your sonar system. The QuadPing™ functionality is a free upgrade for all our users, making your sonar one of the few systems with such advanced features.
QuadPing is a significant step forward in sonar technology. It provides you with a real advantage. QuadPing sends out four "pings" simultaneously in dual, split-screen mode. The echoes from the first ping are shown in the first view as a reference. The echoes from the other three pings, each with a different tilt angle, are displayed in the second view. The first view detects the fish, while the second maps and tracks the catch to your boat. The sonar's full omni-stabilization of transmission and reception beams enables this functionality. This functionality is particularly beneficial for purse seiners and sports fishing.
Key features are:
- Two horizontal views: one single swath of echoes in the left view and three swaths combined into one view on the right-hand side.
- The three combined pings are separated by 10 degrees tilt. The tilt of the middle ping is shown.
- The frequency is shown for the second swath. The other two are ±1 kHz of the second swath.
Seamless communication with other vessel sensors
The sonar system provides several standard interface lines. These interfaces ensure seamless communication with peripheral devices and sensors, with typical inputs like geographical information, vessel speed, and heading. The built-in motion sensor enhances operational accuracy, and you can increase this accuracy by adding an external motion reference unit (MRU).
Sonar operating panel
This sonar supports the optional Operating Panel Mk.2. This operating panel uses a handy multifunction joystick. The joystick facilitates tilt, vertical, and inspection beam control through simple pushes or twists of the knob. The operating panel communicates with the Processor Unit using an Ethernet connection. This communication format allows for advanced functionality. You can manage up to four different Simrad sonars using a single panel. Conversely, up to three panels in various locations on the vessel can operate a single sonar. The USB port on the operating panel also provides convenient software upgrades and user settings management. The operating panel also features dedicated and customizable buttons and knobs, and its design allows for a straightforward upgrade from older panels using a mounting bracket.
"Winson" operating software
This sonar uses the latest "Winson" operating software. This unique software platform is common for all Simrad sonars. It allows you to present the various sonar echoes in separate views, which you can move to separate display monitors. Another great feature of the new software is its ability to "ping" all the beams simultaneously. Multiple pings increase the ping rate and thus offer a more frequent update of the sonar echoes in the views.

System diagram
The Simrad MF90 system units are typically installed on the bridge and in a sonar room. The main communication line between the bridge units and the Transceiver Unit in the sonar room is a high-speed Ethernet cable. The Simrad MF90 fish-finding sonar comprises the following units:
